5th Annual Prayer 4 Peace March

Annual event calls for A New Day in Homewood

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Pittsburgh, PA: On Good Friday, April 18, 2014, House of Manna Faith Community and the Homewood Renaissance Association will gather one thousand people in front of Westinghouse High School, (1101 Murtland Street, Pgh 15208) and march through Homewood-Brushton to the corner of Frankstown and North Homewood. We will gather at 8:30am with words to the community @ 9:00am then we march. Event will end at 11:00am The theme of this year's march is "It's a New Day" celebrating the death and resurrection of our old ways of living and our new creation in Jesus The Christ. "For years, our community has been labeled as violent, undereducated and economically underserved….On this day we will declare those days are over" says Eugene "Freedom" Blackwell, Pastor of House of Manna Faith Community. This mile-long Prayer 4 Peace March will be led by Homewood's elders and young people, the Pittsburgh Police, followed by the businesses, organizations and partners. "The order was purposefully selected to symbolize the future of our entire community working together toward a new day," says, Free Blackwell, P4PM organizer. About 750 participants attended last year's march. Among those scheduled to participate and speak this year include Homewood-Brushton Community residents, local politicians such as Bill Peduto, Mayor, City of Pittsburgh, Rich Fitzgerald Allegheny County Executive, Ed Gainey, Pennsylvania State Representative. Jim Ferlo, Pennsylvania State Senator. We invite church leaders. Rev. John Wallace, Rev. Bill Glaze, Rev. R. Lyde, Rev. Ricky Burgess, City of Pittsburgh Councilman and Rev. Dr. Sheldon W. Sorge Pittsburgh Presbytery Executive Presbyter, And local leaders such as Executive Director T. Rashad Byrdsong, Jerome Jackson, Operation Better Block, Tim Stevens, Founder Black Political Empowerment Project Urban League of Pittsburgh President and CEO Esther L. Bush. In addition, we invite Local Radio Station WAMO and Local artist who will perform before and after. Join us on one of the most holy days on the global Christian calendar. "This march will create a unique manifestation of God's presence knowing that individual prayer is powerful", states, Free.
