Reverend Eugene "Freedom" Blackwell – Bio

Rev. Eugene "Freedom" Blackwell serves as Pastor to the House of Manna Faith Community.  Prior to joining with the community of Homewood-Brushton, Pastor Blackwell served five years at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh from 2004-2009. During his time at Bethesda, God renewed his compassion for ministry to everyday people creating in Freedom a desire to reach those crying out to God. In addition to serving the community through the House of Manna Faith Community, Rev. Blackwell serves as assistant minister to North Way Christian Community.

Rev. Blackwell received his Bachelor of Science, with a minor in African American Studies, from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also was a member of the football team. After his graduation, Rev. Blackwell accepted his call to ministry and entered the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary to earn his Master in Divinity, with an urban focus.

Freedom is former CEO of Homewood RenaissanceAssociation. His involvement in Homewood Renaissance is a manifestation of his dedication to seek justice and mercy for all of God’s people through the teaching of Jesus Christ. His compassion is also high for the physical, mental, and spiritual, empowerment of the disenfranchised communities of our nation. He spends many hours working with everyday people, working the street, building relationships, seeking resources and sharing Christ's love. He has served the broader community through his service as Secretary of Homewood-Brushton Community Ministries, MADDADS of Greater PittsburghVice-Moderator of the Black Presbyterian Caucus, African American Clergy of the Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Metro-Urban Institute advisory board,  NAACP Religious Affairs, coach in Homewood little league baseball, basketball and track.

Rev. Blackwell is devoted husband to Dina M. Blackwell and a proud father.
