Mack Trucks Inc. is recalling 1, TerraPro TE models from the and model years because headlight aiming was skipped during about a year’s worth of production.

Improperly aimed headlights can reduce visibility and contribute to a possible crash, according to Mack’s filing of a non-compliance safety recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard covers lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment.

Mack, a subsidiary of the Volvo Group (NASDAQ: VLVLY), said it was unaware of any crashes or injuries related to the condition. About 70% of the trucks manufactured between Oct. 29, , and Oct. 7, , are believed to be affected.

The issue was discovered at the Mack plant near Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, Following an investigation, Mack decided on Dec. 9, , to conduct a safety recall. The NHTSA recall number is 19V

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, adjust the aim of sealed beam headlamps for free. Owner notification letters will be mailed by Feb. 6,

The condition leading to the recall was corrected in production on Oct. 8, , when %  inspection was added at Mack&#;s manufacturing facility.

Recall report: Mack announces two recalls for headlight, steering issues

The following safety recall was issued Monday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • Chrysler is recalling certain Ram trucks. An incorrect tire pressure monitoring system sensor could have been installed during production causing the sensor to not display the low tire pressure warning indicator. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number , “Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.” Without a warning indicator, the driver will be unaware if low tire pressure occurs, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 34 vehicles are affected by this recall.
  • Mack Trucks is recalling certain TerraPro vehicles. The headlamps may not be properly aimed, possibly reducing the driver’s visibility. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of FMVSS number , “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.” Reduced visibility can increase the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 1, vehicles are affected by this recall.
  • Mack Trucks is recalling certain Anthem, Granite and Pinnacle vehicles. The castle nuts and cotter pins used to connect the steering drag link to the pitman arm and steering arm may have not been correctly installed, potentially causing separation of the drag link. If the drag link separates, loss of steering control my occur, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 80 vehicles are affected by this recall.

9 Reasons Your High Beam Headlights Are Not Working

Blown Headlight Bulb

This is the most common cause of a single high beam headlight not working, but isn’t common if both high beams aren’t working, because it’s highly unlikely that both bulbs would blow at the same time. Headlight bulbs have a limited lifespan — to 1, hours — so they’ll eventually burn out.

Blown High Beam Fuse

A fuse protects the wiring from damage, in case too much current is being drawn through the high beam circuit. The fuse will blow if there’s a short circuit, but it might also blow if an accessory is drawing off it or if the bulb is the incorrect wattage. Repeated blown fuses require more diagnosis to pinpoint excessive current.

Faulty High Beam Relay

The headlight switch usually doesn’t control the headlight bulbs directly, but through one or more relays. The headlight switch powers a relay, which powers the headlight bulb. This protects the headlight switch from the high current used by the high beam headlights.

Failing HID Generator

In the case of high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, or Xenon headlights, there’s an additional component. To get the xenon and salts to plasma state, the HID generator bumps the voltage up to 30, V, then stabilizes around 90 V when the bulb is in operation. If the generator fails, the bulb won’t light.

Wiring Problems

The most common short circuit is caused by damaged wiring, perhaps due to a crash, damaged connector, or poor aftermarket accessory installation practices. Broken wiring simply stops current flow, while chafed or damaged wiring might send it elsewhere, to ground or to another circuit. Loose or corroded connections, especially at the headlight bulb, can overheat and melt.

Failing Headlight Switch

A failing headlight switch is uncommon, because the headlight switch is inside the vehicle and well-protected. Still, if you drive a lot, especially at night when you must constantly change between high beams and low beams, you might wear out the headlight switch.

Headlight Fogging

If the high beams function but don’t seem to light your way, especially if you drive an older vehicle with polycarbonate headlight lenses, your car may be a victim of headlight fogging. This isn’t simply scuffing, but an actual chemical change from polycarbonate’s exposure to solar ultraviolet light and caustic exhaust emissions. The diffused light doesn’t project very well, making it hard to see, even when your high beams are on.

Incorrect Headlight Bulb

On some vehicles, particularly those with HID headlights or solid-state circuit protection (Zener diodes or high beam circuit breakers) installing the wrong bulb might result in intermittent headlight operation or no high beams at all. The wrong bulb might not ignite at the right voltage or draw too much current for the circuit protection’s design.

Dirty Fingers

“Didn’t I just replace that high beam bulb?” you say as the high beams fail yet again. This can happen if greasy fingerprints cause part of the bulb to heat unevenly, breaking it. If you have multiple headlight bulb failures, make sure you are especially clean when doing the job. If at all possible, don’t touch the glass portion of the bulb at all. If necessary, handle the bulb with clean latex or nitrile gloves. Finally, if the bulb is dirty, clean it with a fresh alcohol pad before installation.

Fixing Your High Beam Headlights

Headlight bulbs are available in every auto parts store, so it should be easy to find what you need. Check your owner’s manual to be sure which kind of high beam bulb you need and get familiar with the fuse box in case the high beams stop working. Finally, practice using a digital multimeter so you can rule out electrical problems before replacing other components.

Headlight problems truck mack

  1. I&#;m new to owning my own truck, and before everyone says it I know, I picked an expensive truck to fix to start out with, but the deal was right. I have a couple of issues with my &#;05 Mack Vision I was hoping some of you can shed some light on for me.

First, I have an ABS light always on on the tractor, is there any way to get error codes from the truck with out plugging it in to some computer? and if so how do i decifer the codes to find out what sensor is bad, etc.

second, I have a couple electrical issues which I don&#;t know if they are tied together or common. If turn my high beams on, after about 20 seconds, they flicker and turn all my lights off until i click them off, then all my lights come back on. Second, if I am hooked to a trailer (any trailer) as soon as i turn on my ignition, the trailer lights come on even though my light switch is off, some times it&#;s some of the trailer lights, other times it&#;s all of them.

Someone told me the daytime running lights ws the issue with the high beams, so I pulled the fuse, but it still does the same thing so that didn&#;t work. I&#;d appreciate any suggestions. I don&#;t have any money really to back me up on this venture, so I&#;m trying to do what ever I can on my own so I don&#;t drain the truck account senselessly, and still support my family at home, trying to get out of the living paycheck to paycheck atmoshere, I&#;m slowly starting to head towards my goal so i&#;d like to keep it that way.

I don&#;t always have internet on the road, and I try and stay out 2 weeks at a time so forgive me if any of my responses are slow comming, but I will try to check in as often as I can, I like the looks of this site, it&#;s the first I&#;ve tried, so I intend to be very active. Thanks for your time and suggestions.

  3. I&#;m no McTruck expert, having just recently started driving one again for our company ( Pinnacle) which surprised me by being a pretty good truck.

However, going by other trucks, I might offer an opinion. The light problem sounds like a headlight relay shorted out. It might be cheaper and easier to just get it read with the computer tho. Then you can always fix the prob yourself.

I know how tough it is to work on a shoestring without financial backup. I didn&#;t make it but others have. I suggest you search posts by our late friend Southern Pride for inspiration. He did it all.

Looking forward to your posts. Welcome brother.
  4. I don&#;t know what happened with my passwords or the whole reset thing but I couldn&#;t log back in so i guess this&#;ll be my new name anyways, Thanks kittyfoot, i may just try replacing the relay for the highbeams, see if that works
