Tardigrade io

Tardigrade io DEFAULT

Out of the Blockchain-hype there was storj.io V2 storage-network. a fully encrypted, decentralised storage.

Now, storj.io is moving to V3 - a full S3-compatible network. still decentralised and with high encryption.

Tardigrade is the enterprise, production-ready version of the Storj network, complete with guaranteed SLAs.

How it Works

With Tardigrade cloud storage, your files are encrypted and split into pieces client-side before being distributed across our network of high-performance storage nodes.

OSS partners, i.e. nextcloud, minio, cloudron?,

who integrate the tardigrade.io into their sw. they get paid a share on every byte, the enduser store into the storj network!

See how we treat our partners.

Tardigrade, and our open-source parent company Storj Labs are very passionate about supporting, building, and using open source software. It’s this passion that led us to create our Open Source Partner Program. With this program, every time your users store data on Tardigrade, we will share a generous portion of every dollar earned with our open-source partners. Forever. . .

Storagenode Operators:

everybody can run a V3 storj-node, and rent the spare space, one might have. (from RPI upwards).

The V3 Network is in beta, production ready in autumn.

from my experience over the years: very innovative, deliver high quality software, keep there milestone-timetable, good support.
definitely worth a look.

Tardigrade is the enterprise, production-ready version of the Storj network. FileZilla/FileZilla Pro and Tardigrade make together to confidentially transfer files with end-to-end encrypted cloud storage.

Below you find a step by step guide, if you prefer you can watch our How to Connect to Tardigrade Distributed Cloud Storage video tutorial.

In order to connect to Tardigrade Distributed Cloud Storage follow the steps described below.

  1. Start creating a site entry for your Tardigrade connection.
  2. Click New in the Site Manager dialog box.
  3. Select Tardigrade Storage as the protocol.
  4. Enter the satellite host name.
  5. Enter the API key.
If you don’t have a key visit the tardigrade.io dashboard and choose API Keys option to create one.
  6. Enter the passphrase will be used to encrypt and decrypt your data.
  7. Click Connect.

The video tutorial below shows how to connect to Tardigrade with FileZilla Pro.

Tardigrade

Tardigrade is an encrypted, secure, and cost-effective object storage service that enables you to store, back up, and archive large amounts of data in a decentralized manner.

Setup

To make a new Tardigrade configuration you need one of the following:

  • Access Grant that someone else shared with you.
  • API Key of a Tardigrade project you are a member of.

Here is an example of how to make a remote called . First run:

This will guide you through an interactive setup process:

Setup with access grant

Setup with API key and passphrase

Usage

Paths are specified as (or for the command.) You may put subdirectories in too, e.g. .

Once configured you can then use like this.

Create a new bucket

Use the command to create new bucket, e.g. .

List all buckets

Use the command to list all buckets.

Note the colon () character at the end of the command line.

Delete a bucket

Use the command to delete an empty bucket.

Use the command to delete a non-empty bucket with all its content.

Upload objects

Use the command to upload an object.

The flag is for displaying progress information. Remove it if you don't need this information.

Use a folder in the local path to upload all its objects.

Only modified files will be copied.

List objects

Use the command to list recursively all objects in a bucket.

Add the folder to the remote path to list recursively all objects in this folder.

Use the command to list non-recursively all objects in a bucket or a folder.

Download objects

Use the command to download an object.

The flag is for displaying progress information. Remove it if you don't need this information.

Use a folder in the remote path to download all its objects.

Delete objects

Use the command to delete a single object.

Use the command to delete all object in a folder.

Print the total size of objects

Use the command to print the total size of objects in a bucket or a folder.

Sync two Locations

Use the command to sync the source to the destination, changing the destination only, deleting any excess files.

The flag is for displaying progress information. Remove it if you don't need this information.

Since this can cause data loss, test first with the flag to see exactly what would be copied and deleted.

The sync can be done also from Tardigrade to the local file system.

Or between two Tardigrade buckets.

Or even between another cloud storage and Tardigrade.

Standard Options

Here are the standard options specific to tardigrade (Tardigrade Decentralized Cloud Storage).

--tardigrade-provider

Choose an authentication method.

  • Config: provider
  • Env Var: RCLONE_TARDIGRADE_PROVIDER
  • Type: string
  • Default: "existing"
  • Examples:
    • "existing"
      • Use an existing access grant.
    • "new"
      • Create a new access grant from satellite address, API key, and passphrase.

--tardigrade-access-grant

Access Grant.

  • Config: access_grant
  • Env Var: RCLONE_TARDIGRADE_ACCESS_GRANT
  • Type: string
  • Default: ""

--tardigrade-satellite-address

Satellite Address. Custom satellite address should match the format: .

  • Config: satellite_address
  • Env Var: RCLONE_TARDIGRADE_SATELLITE_ADDRESS
  • Type: string
  • Default: "us-central-1.tardigrade.io"
  • Examples:
    • "us-central-1.tardigrade.io"
    • "europe-west-1.tardigrade.io"
    • "asia-east-1.tardigrade.io"

--tardigrade-api-key

API Key.

  • Config: api_key
  • Env Var: RCLONE_TARDIGRADE_API_KEY
  • Type: string
  • Default: ""

--tardigrade-passphrase

Encryption Passphrase. To access existing objects enter passphrase used for uploading.

  • Config: passphrase
  • Env Var: RCLONE_TARDIGRADE_PASSPHRASE
  • Type: string
  • Default: ""

Limitations

is not supported by the rclone Tardigrade backend. Backends without this capability cannot determine free space for an rclone mount or use policy (most free space) as a member of an rclone union remote.

See List of backends that do not support rclone about See rclone about

Known issues

If you get errors like this usually happens when the default for system max open files is exceeded. Native Storj protocol opens a large number of TCP connections (each of which is counted as an open file). For a single upload stream you can expect 110 TCP connections to be opened. For a single download stream you can expect 35. This batch of connections will be opened for every 64 MiB segment and you should also expect TCP connections to be reused. If you do many transfers you eventually open a connection to most storage nodes (thousands of nodes).

To fix these, please raise your system limits. You can do this issuing a just before you run rclone. To change the limits more permanently you can add this to your shell startup script, e.g. , or change the system-wide configuration, usually and/or , but please refer to your operating system manual.
