Turntable riser shelf

Riser for record player on top of receiver?

..just go to Home Depot and make your own....   Have a couple of inches clearance - but depending on the design of your turntable I would make it light for a Linn type, or very solid for a VPI type turntable.

An important consideration may prove to be RFI. This is an unknown factor until one actually experiences it. Good luck!

You really should never put anything (especially a turntable) on top of a receiver.

The receiver has a transformer that can cause EMI noise and like mentioned above, RFI from the tuner section.

Dont do this heat, feedback etc bad idea!!

OK thanks all!  What about building a shelf above the receiver, say a foot or two above.  Is that also a bad idea b/c of the heat and potential interference?

I am only asking cuz I live in NYC and have a small apartment, so space is a premium!  I wish I could share a photo of the area I'm dealing with.

What about building a shelf above the receiver, say a foot or two above. Is that also a bad idea b/c of the heat and potential interference?
That should work fine.  As long as it's a foot or two above the receiver.  Use at least a 1 inch or even a 2 inch thick piece of shelving material, you should have no problem.  Make sure you leave enough space above the receiver so it doesn't get hot and has plenty of ventilation.

There are wall mounted turntable shelves available. Check and see how they attach to the wall and if it suitable for your needs.  Google turntable wall shelf.  They are $55 and up.

#14 Sekey Home 2-Tier Record Stand

record player stand

      KEY FEATURES

  • High-grade MDF construction for durability
  • Multi-functional setup
  • Up to 50 LPs, vertical or stacked
  • Easy to assemble and keep clean

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The Sekey Home End Table is more like a piece of furniture that many record enthusiasts are turning into a small, convenient music center. The flat top of the table works very well for a turntable, and the large, open base of the stand looks great when filled with some of your finest records. It also has an aesthetic that works well in any sort of design setting.

OUR THOUGHTS

The materials here are a good quality and the product itself is easy to assemble and clean. As a storage center for your records or even as a table-top player, the stand has a good height and great stability, so your needle won’t go skipping around.

It’s a very open model, no doors and no sides, so everything is a bit exposed here. Though for collectors who really want to show off their player and their collection, that’s a positive and not a negative.

#13 Victrola Wooden Stand

victrola wooden record player stand

      KEY FEATURES

  • Can be used as a companion piece to all Victrola wooden music centers.
  • Made from real wood.
  • Compact in size but stores over 50 records.
  • No tools required to assemble.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The Victrola stand is 100% real wood so it’s sturdy and not just some piece of plastic in your living room. It also matches well with any old-style Victrola music items you may have. It can store a lot of records in a compact way, so the storage stand is actually out of the way. Or, throw it out center-stage and put some flowers or something on top.

OUR THOUGHTS

This wooden stand by Victrola may be number 13 on our list but don’t underestimate it. This stand is for the simpleton- it’s the perfect classic wooden record shelf that allows the collection to shine. It’s compact in size so it will fit anywhere you need it to and can be transported easily.

It holds up to 50 records but if you have a larger collection, Victrola has other pieces you can add to it to maintain a cohesive look. If ordering it in the “espresso” stain, be aware that it may not be quite as dark as you may expect it to be. Take a little extra care while assembling this piece, because it is real wood it could potentially crack.

  • Durable material.

It sort of has a chameleon effect in that regard. It holds a whole lot of LPs, nearly 200, and is guaranteed to last, so you can always get a replacement if needed.

OUR THOUGHTS

Way Basic’s did it right with this unit. You get ample storage space to support a larger collection and since it is made from recycled materials that are light and easily moveable.

If you decide to purchase this record player cabinet and want to ensure maximum durability try adding some gorilla glue to the pegs while assembling it for extra-strength.

turntable record player stand

      KEY FEATURES

  • Made of ECO-friendly, durable bamboo.
  • Easy to assemble.
  • Practical and contemporary design
  • Can hold up to 50 LP’s records.
  • 2-year Guarantee.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The Record Happy is a cool, V-shaped LP holder that looks a bit modern in design though fits in well with a traditional music center due to the fact it’s made out of bamboo. It’s really low to the ground and stores everything underneath, though that could be a big plus if you want to use the top of this as a table to hold your actual record player or anything else.

This is a really clever and contemporary design that enables ample record storage, making it easy to select and access your vinyl, as well as being a solid stand for your turntable.

A great space saver, and a quirky unique design makes this a great addition to any vinyl enthusiasts home.

#10 Crosley ST66-PA

      KEY FEATURES

  • Handcrafted hardwoods & veneers
  • Decorative wire record slots for record storage
  • Holds upto 50 records
  • Multiple colors, woods, & finishes to choose from

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The Crosley has the look and feel of a record storage center you would expect to find in someone’s home in the ’50s. It’s very traditional in that regard. It also features wire holders, so your records can remain vertical and won’t go flopping all around and falling down. If you’re not a big fan of the wood veneer, you can choose other finishes.

OUR THOUGHTS

This Crosley Furniture table comes in a nice minimal style with multiple finishes, including this golden oak, to choose from to match your home furnishings and turntable. It has been known to be a little fiddly to put together as well as being a bit wobbly.

However, it is one of Crosleys best sellers and for the price, it can’t be all bad. A good fit for a basic lightweight record player.

#9 Vasagle Industrial

      KEY FEATURES

  • Rustic & simplistic modern design
  • Adjustable metal legs for extra sturdiness
  • Stackable for extra shelf space and customization

REASONS TO CONSIDER

When it comes to an old-school look, you won’t find one that beats the Vasagle. It looks antique though is brand new. It doesn’t hold a lot of records, but it can definitely stand out as a centerpiece to hold the best pieces of your collection. It’s a minimalist approach to record storage that doesn’t skip over the aesthetic allure that so many collectors desire.

OUR THOUGHTS

This table is seriously versatile. It is not designed specifically to be a record player stand, however, we love how you can stack them on top of each other allowing you to really personalize your turntable set up.

Stacking creates extra shelves for your amp or records as well as raising the overall height. The metal legs are also adjustable to account for uneven surfaces, ideal for a record player stand.

The only downside is its not so practical for storing your record collection, especially if it’s as big as mine!!

#8 Crosley Everett Record Player Stand

Crosley Everett Record Player Stand

      KEY FEATURES

  • Unique cabinet design.
  • Full door for added protection.
  • Holds up to 70 albums.
  • Wired slots to hold records in place.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The Everett by Crosley is one that stands out as a true music center. It was designed specifically to hold your turntable on top while keeping your records safe in a cabinet. However, while it may be a taller piece, complete with legs, it isn’t that wide so would work great in smaller rooms or apartments. It’s a vertical setup, and you can get around 70 LPs in here.

OUR THOUGHTS

This record player cabinet has a cool, modern style and adds an extra layer of protection thanks to the full door.

When it comes to the inside, if you have an amp or tuner you want to put into it you’re going to have to drill a hole or two into the back for the chords so be prepared. Overall, great look, durable, and reasonable price!

Pangea Audio Vulcan TT Stand record player

  • Heavy duty top platform.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

There’s just something very striking about the Pangea Audio Vulcan stand. It’s gloss black and vertical, so it appears sleek and stylish. It’s also a very sturdy stand that you can load up with your turntable or other items, if you’d like to use your record storage stand as somewhat of an entertainment stand. With a capacity of 100 records, it’s plenty big enough for mid-range collectors.

OUR THOUGHTS

Pangea managed to make a shelf that is highly durable and ultra-functional for record storage. The shelves are extra thick so you don’t have to worry about any mishaps.

#6 Crosley Brooklyn Turntable Stand

Crosley Brooklyn Turntable Stand record player

      KEY FEATURES

  • Designed for component-style turntables.
  • Adjustable top shelf.
  • Extremely durable.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

A turntable stand and not a record storage piece, the Crosley Brooklyn is for the player enthusiast who wishes to showcase his or her actual player. It’s a blend of contemporary and traditional here, with a wood top to house the turntable and then a black base. The contrast stands out, and the tall, thin legs give it some height in a very dignified manner.

OUR THOUGHTS

If you want something that’s durable and very unique in style, this shelf by Crosley might be the one for you. The coolest thing about this shelf is the design!

Rustic looking wood with industrial style legs make for a unique look and you’ll feel like you’re in your own personal record store when going through your collection. All of the album artwork will be facing you instead of the sides of the unit making it easy to find what you’re looking for and you can use it for your favorite as a display. For sure one of the best record player stands.

The unit is heavy- about 90 pounds so be prepared if you think you’ll need some assistance when it comes to moving it.

#5 Line Phono Turntable Station

Line Phono Turntable Station record player stand

      KEY FEATURES

  • Will fit most turntables and amps with an ultra-compact design.
  • 2 record shelves that hold up to 100 LP’s each.
  • Easy to assemble.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

This is an all-in-one sort of music center for the LP enthusiast. The Line Phono was created to hold your turntable on top while integrating it so well it looks like it was purchased that way. The wide and deep shelves also house 100 records each, so you get a total storage capacity of 200. This is ideal for the true enthusiast who wants to build an actual music center, not just random pieces strewn together.

OUR THOUGHTS

This shelf is compact and easy to move around your space. Its design is more minimalist so it will fit in with the other furniture in the room and it comes with a cool hook on the side for you to store your headphones without taking up shelf space.

Grooves in the shelves that hold your records ensure that there’s no chance of them falling out with decent storage space. When assembling, be careful of the pins that hold everything together as they can be fragile when inserting into the unit.

#4 I Love Living Retro Clarence Media Console

      KEY FEATURES

  • Sliding doors for extra protection from the elements.
  • Scratch-resistant finish.
  • Adjustable shelf height.
  • Lots of space.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The I Love Living Retro Clarence model isn’t just a record stand; it’s an entire media console. It’s ideal for people who love that traditional look, as it’s basically modeled after an entertainment stand from the 1950s. That’s a good thing for many enthusiasts who love that class, antique look. It has sliding doors and shelves you can adjust, so you can play around with the storage compartments for things other than records or your turntable.

OUR THOUGHTS

The retro, mid century feel of this shelf is one of the coolest things about it. You’ll have an exposed shelf to store your most frequently used or favorite records and unexposed shelving on the bottom for those that need extra-protection or don’t get taken out too often.

This bad boy is going to take a little more time than the other shelves to assemble but is well worth the work! This is a good choice if you want your collection to be seen as more of a statement piece of the room.

Novogratz Concord Turntable Stand Double with Drawers record player

      KEY FEATURES

  • Comes with 2 drawers for extra storage.
  • Hairpin legs and dividers.
  • Can easily support larger collections.
  • Made of sturdy materials.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The Concord Turntable Stand from Novogratz looks like you got a two-for-one deal and stuck two separate stands together. This means double the space. So, if you like, you can really play around with the turntable position on top. Maybe centered with speakers on each side, off-set with something else, etc. Drawers give you extra storage, and you can fit almost 200 LPs in at the bottom vertically.

OUR THOUGHTS

Coming in at number three on our list is the Novogratz Concord Turntable Stand, and it’s high up for many reasons. First off, it looks super cool. Especially with those hairpin legs! Second, it provides more than enough space to hold a larger collection. And third, it is durable!

If you want to make an investment in something that is going to last you a while, this one will do it. Did we mention it looks cool? And it’s a steal for the price.

WickerWoodWorks Deluxe Vinyl Display Turn Table Station

      KEY FEATURES

  • Multiple crates for storage.
  • Made of durable materials.
  • Holds over 400 records.
  • Fits most record players.

REASONS TO CONSIDER

The "VW" vertical wall mount shelf is ideally suited for turntables, which benefit most through isolation from the floor.  Like the IS shelf, the VW has a 2" x 1" tubular steel frame design that incorporates 4 inverted steel spikes supporting the suspended 0.750" x 18"w x 14"d dense MDF laminated shelf.  In addition, the VW is welded and center braced to a wall mount frame with 4 mounting holes (on 16" centers) to mount firmly to any wall.

Older homes, or homes with less solid floors are best applications for the VW.  The VW design further eliminates the effect from any mechanical or sound based vibrations and completely isolates the turntable from the floor.

Higher mounting height allows for easier use of any turntable, without having to bend to see the needle location.

Overall size of the high mass / high rigidity VW stand is: 9"h (at wall) x 20"w x 18.5"d and weighs 21 lbs.  The VW comes with 4 screws & covers for mounting into wood studs.  Use of toggle bolts optional if non 16" center studs.
