NEWTON, NC (WBTV) - Catawba County is developing a new GIS real estate website to take advantage of new technology and offer enhanced services.

The new site is available at

"One of the enhancements provided by our new website is an auto-fill feature," said Ralph Dell, Catawba County's GIS Web Developer.  "As you begin to type an address, an owner name or a subdivision name, matches will be displayed below the input box." You may click on the appropriate match which will then zoom to a map of the property.  Report links will be displayed on the right hand side of the map. The reports will open in a new tab or window.

The new site also offers the ability to search on a business or landmark name.  Using the example of ABC Book Store, as a user begins to type the business name, the auto-fill will display names that match what has been typed in thus far.

The new site also provides links to both Google and Bing maps after a search has been performed.  "Aerial photography for 2010 is currently available on this site," Dell said.  "Aerials from previous years will be added as development continues."

"We expect both real estate sites to be up and running for awhile to allow for thorough testing," said Michelle Deese, Catawba County's GIS Administrator. "We welcome feedback from users so that we might develop the best product possible."

For more information or to share feedback on the site, users may contact Ralph Dell by clicking on an email link on the left hand side of the new GIS web page or at 828-465-8391; or contact Michelle Deese at 828-465-8387 or by email at [email protected]
